OverviewEdit

The Mle 35 uniform was similar to its predecessor the Mle 15 in almost all aspects but the stand collar was replaced with a looser falling collar.[7] It was made of brown or green khaki wool. The tunic had two pleated chest pockets with either scalloped or non-scalloped flaps and two lower non-pleated and non-scalloped pockets. The tunic was buttoned with six brass buttons and the pockets were also fastened via brass buttons. It had shoulder boards even though colored diamond shaped collar patches were also worn at the tip of the collar. Line infantry wore bright red collar patches outlined at the top in black, while the Ardennes Rifles' (Chasseurs Ardennais) patches were green with a gold boar's head.[8] Cuffs varied from simple design to pointed cuffs, but officer's tunics had predominantly the pointed version.

The Mle 35 uniform was developed from the Mle 15. The official Mle 35 regulations were issued by the Ministry of National Defence on 23 August, 1935.[9] The Mle 35 was the standard issue uniform of the Belgian army during World War II and was used during the Battle of Belgium and the Battle of Dunkirk.
